Summary of the Project
The Learning2gether project, funded by Erasmus+ and coordinated by Bifröst University in Iceland, was a pioneering 24-month initiative aimed at enhancing the employability of NEETs (young people not in education, employment, or training) while modernizing the skillsets of older workers in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Europe. The project sought to address the growing gap between the rapidly evolving digital job market and the skillsets of both NEETs and SME workers. By creating opportunities for skill-sharing between these two groups, the project aimed to foster mutual benefits and improve employment outcomes for both NEETs and SME workers.

At the core of Learning2gether was its innovative approach to intergenerational education. NEETs, equipped with up-to-date knowledge of digital tools, social media, and modern marketing practices, were paired with older SME employees who brought valuable experience and business acumen. This collaboration was designed to help NEETs gain relevant skills to boost their job prospects while simultaneously helping older SME workers and business owners update their digital and social media competencies. This dual-focus approach aimed to bridge the skills gap in the labor market and enhance the overall effectiveness of SMEs.

The project utilized a range of successful methodologies and training materials from previous initiatives, which were adapted and expanded to suit the needs of both NEETs and SME workers. Despite encountering challenges, such as slightly fewer SME workers participating than initially planned, the project succeeded in exceeding its targets for NEET involvement and reached a larger audience through various multiplier events and dissemination activities. The emphasis on distance and blended learning proved to be a significant advantage, accommodating diverse learning preferences and extending the reach of the project’s impact.

In addition to its direct training efforts, Learning2gether made substantial strides in raising awareness among key stakeholders, including educational institutions, labor market organizations, NGOs, and municipalities. The project developed open-access learning materials and resources, including a policy makers guide, which facilitated the broader adoption of its methodologies. These resources were designed to support ongoing learning and adaptation, ensuring that the project’s benefits could be sustained beyond its initial implementation phase.

Overall, Learning2gether demonstrated a successful model for intergenerational skill-sharing and digital education. By leveraging the strengths of both NEETs and older SME workers, the project made significant strides in improving employability and modernizing business practices. Its approach to blended and distance learning, combined with its comprehensive dissemination of resources, ensured that the impact of the project extended well beyond its immediate participants, contributing to a more adaptable and skilled workforce across Europe.

Significance of the Project
The Learning2gether project is significant for young people, particularly NEETs, because it directly addresses their employability challenges by equipping them with in-demand digital and social media skills. By participating in this project, young people gain valuable training and experience that enhance their job prospects and career readiness. Additionally, the project fosters intergenerational collaboration, allowing NEETs to learn from older SME workers while sharing their own modern digital expertise. This not only helps bridge the skills gap but also provides NEETs with practical, real-world experience and networking opportunities, which are crucial for building successful careers.
